Train Fire

November 5th, 2008 by Commissioner

This morning the Engine and Squad were dispatched to a train fire in the area of the Lowther St.  Chief 201 (Hazardous Materials Team Chief who’s also a member of the WSBF) was first on scene advising best access was from I-83 at Exit 42. The Squad arrived next followed by Engine 2.  Crews threw ladders to get over the fencing and another ladder to access the train.  It is believed a fuel leak ignited the fire in the engine compartment.  By the time the WSBF arrived on the scene the train Engineer had used dry-chemical powder on the fire and had things under control.  The WSBF checked for extension to confirm the fire was out and then turned things over to Norfolk Southern.
