| The 2nd weekend in July for the past 50 year’s the public has witnessed an amazing site along the Susquehanna river at Harrisburg River Front Park. Antique fire apparatus, dating back to the 1700’s, hand & horse drawn, plus motorized are on display during this one day event. The most recognizable part of this event is the line of fire trucks drafting water from the river and “spraying” water back into the river for the entire day. Fire “Buffs” from up and down the east coast come to show off their restored apparatus and keep the fire service history alive.
Another reason this was a very special day is because this was the last Pump Primers event to be at Riverfront park. For now, future events will be held in Millersburg, PA on the 2nd weekend in July.
This event also marked a proud milestone for the West Shore Bureau of Fire. The fire department, for the past 50 years, has assisted with this event by providing support for the fire company competitions that take place during the day. The department was recognized at the conclusion of today’s event with recognition and a plaque celebrating our involvement for all 50 years.
One other very proud moment for the West Shore Bureau of Fire, Our Jr. Firefighters, ages 14-17 years old, led by Deputy Chief Dave Beasley took FIRST PLACE in the Bucket Brigade competition against very competent senior teams. Additionally they participated in the Barrel Spin and Barrel Bust competitions and honorably showed everyone the next generation of Fire Fighters have what it takes to carry on the fire fighter tradition. |
