Hazardous Materials Incident

April 21st, 2008 by Commissioner

Early friday afternoon the WSBF was alerted to provide manpower to assist with a Hazardous Materials Incident on the Carlisle Pike in Silver Spring Twp.  Engine 3-13 responded with a crew of 6 and initially assisted with containing product run-off.  The incident was the result of an auto accident involving a loaded Dump Truck versus a Tractor Trailer hauling gasoline and diesel fuel.  The Dump Truck ruptured the compartment holding gasoline causing several thousands of gallons of gasoline to spill.  After the crew from Engine 3-13 assisted with containment they were reassigned to relocate closer to the scene and provide manpower to man hoselines in case of fire.  Later in the incident Engine 3-13 was requested to transfer to Company 33’s Quarters (New Kingstown) to staff their station.  After a little over an hour of rest the crew was called back to the scene of the incident to assist with manpower for the same previous tasks and later assisted with scene clean up once the vehicles were removed from the scene.
