Entrapment on 581

January 19th, 2008 by Kevin Lubinsky

Just before 1:30 AM on Saturday morning, January 19th the WSBF was joined by Harrisburg Squad 8 and others on 581 WB just past the I-83 split for a serious MVA with entrapment.  A vehicle was apparently traveling at a high speed westbound approaching the scene of the previous incident and struck one of the tow trucks dispatched to help upright the tractor trailer overturned.  The impact was so severe that the saddle tank was completely removed from the tow truck and the striking vehicle was launched over the Jersey barrier to the center eastbound lane.  Squad 8 arrived first and began extrication and was soon joined by Squad 13 and Engine 313.  One patient was extricated from the eastbound vehicle and one patient was packaged from the tow truck. Extended clean up operations were required due to considerable fluid spills from the vehicles involved.  All patients were transported by ground.  Thanks to Camp Hill and Lower Allen Fire and EMS, Hampden EMS, Life Team EMS and West Shore EMS.
