3 Alarms in Wormleysburg
January 13th at 1546hrs the WSBF was struck out for a house fire at 10 Poplar Street in Wormleysburg. Chief 1-A and the Squad were both responding within minutes and advised by headquarters of multiple calls. Chief 1-A arrived on scene at 1550hrs with fire showing to the rear (Side C) and smoke pushing from the eaves of the entire building. The Squad arrived on the scene at 1551hrs and immediately entered the building with 2 lines in to different entrances at the front (Side A) of the building. Crews encountered thick, heavy, snotty smoke on the third floor of the building with zero visibility. Engine 213 arrived moments after the Squad, they laid a 5″ supply line from the front of Station 2 down River St. to Side C of of the building. They immediately pulled the blitzfire to make the knock on the fire on the outside of the building. 3 handlines were then put in to service from Engine 213 to the 2nd and 3rd floors of the building. At 1553hrs command struck the duece. With manpower depleted from second alarm, third alarm was struck at 1619hrs.
The building was a group of 4 row homes, each 3 stories in the front, 2 stories in the rear. They all shared a common crawl space which promoted a quickly spreading fire once it made it’s way up the rear of the building. Crews were on scene for a little over 5 hours due to the extensive overhaul necessary of the entire 3rd floor of the building. Air 13 remained on scene for an extra hour to provide lighting for the State Police Fire Marshall.
