Today Co 13 along with mutual aid units were dispatched to Lemoyne Borough for a car on fire inside of a building. Crews arrived on scene to find a lithium battery exploded while being charged. The battery was powering equipment attached to the vehicle. The vehicle was removed from the building and then the batteries were removed from the unit. A hazmat chief was called to the scene to advise proper handling of the battery. The damaged battery was placed in a metal can and covered with sand. This is our first experience dealing with a lithium battery on fire. Unfortunately it will probably not be our last
