Don’t forget!

November 6th, 2009 by Commissioner

In case you forgot, it’s that time of the year again to change the batteries in your smoke detectors!  The National Fire Protection Administration (NFPA) recommends replacing smoke detectors every 10 years.  If the smoke detector is less then 10 years old but does not function properly you should replace it immediately.

Smoke detectors can be purchased at hardware stores such as Lowe’s, Home Depot and ACE Hardware as well as corner stores such as CVS and Rite Aid.  A basic smoke detector that uses a 9 volt battery can be purchased for under $10.  If your smoke detector is connected to a constant power source (hardwired), a replacement can be purchased for as little as $15.  If you have any questions send an email to skeener@wsbf.org
