Friday the 13th a Busy Day

March 14th, 2009 by Commissioner

Friday, March 13th kept Co. 13 busy.  First thing in the morning Engine 2-13 and the Squad took in an automatic fire alarm at the Essex House.  The rest of the morning was quiet.

Station 2 was staffed all afternoon preparing for a dinner fundraiser.  Mid-afternoon the Squad was dispatched to Camp Hill for an auto accident involving 4 vehicles at the intersection of South 32nd St. and Trindle Road.  Shortly after Co. 14 (Camp Hill) and the Squad were dispatched, Engine 3-13 was dispatched next due in place of Co. 14 to assist the Camp Hill Police Department with forcible entry at a police incident.

During rush hour Co. 13 and Co. 14 were dispatched to 83 South between the Lemoyne Exit and the Split for an auto accident with injuries.  Co. 13 units were on the scene for nearly a half hour.  Moments after the WSBF returned to their respective stations another alarm was dispatched.  Battalion 1 and Engine 3-12 (Lower Allen) were dispatched to the 400 Block of Herman Avenue for an unknown type fire inside.  Chief 2-13 (Mulhollan) arrived before dispatch while on his way home from Station 1.  Chief 2-13 found a malfunctioning furnace creating a heavy smoke condition inside the residence.  Crews assisted with extinguishing the furnace, ventilation and isolating power to the furnace.  The furnace wouldn’t stop burning even after the power was shut off.

After getting a break for a couple of hours, Engine 3-13 was dispatched at 2130hrs. to transfer to York County Station 31 (Newberry Township) while they operated at the scene of an auto accident involving a hazardous materials spill.  Traffic 13 was requested to assist with traffic control on I-83 at the incident.  Engine 3-13 and the Traffic Unit returned home shortly after 1am.

For the day, the WSBF responded to 6 incidents.

Another Job Keeps the Battalion Busy

March 8th, 2009 by Commissioner

Saturday night sometime around 1900 hrs., the first alarm was struck for a kitchen fire on the 500 block of Bridge St. in New Cumberland.  First units arrived to fire showing in the rear of a 2 1/2 story duplex.  2nd Alarm was struck quickly due to exposure problems.  The initial attack was close to what was done a few weeks ago in Camp Hill.  2 lines were stretched simultaneously off the Squad (a crew of 8), one line went through the front door to attack from the unburned inside of the house while the second line went to the rear of the house and knocked down what was showing on the outside.  Crews limited exposure damage and were on the scene for a few hours for overhaul.

Thanks to New Kingstown Fire Company (33) and Highspire Fire Company (Dauphin 55) for transferring to Co. 13’s Quarters.
