Chimney Fire with Extension

January 21st, 2008 by Commissioner

Sunday night the Squad was dispatched to respond mutual aid to Lower Allen Twp. for a report of a Chimney Fire. While responding units were advised someone on the scene was reporting the fire extended in to the walls. The Squad arrived first on scene led by Captain Mose. The crew found fire in the wall between the garage and the house. With 1 line in service off the Squad, the crew quickly hooked the wall of the garage and extinguished the fire. Incoming units took care of the fire box and checked for extension in the connecting rooms and floors. Truck 12 went to the roof. Units began clearing the scene after 90 minutes. Camp Hill Cooking/Fairview Twp Job

January 20th, 2008 by Kevin Lubinsky

The early morning hours of Sunday, January 20th brought a near back-to-back pair of calls.  With temperatures hovering around 12 degrees, the crew started the morning at 5 AM sharp with an odor of smoke inside a structure at 8 Dickinson Ave. in Camp Hill.  The Squad arrived with CHFD and found an odor of burnt food on the second floor of a four unit MFD.  After furiously pounding on the door with no response, the decision was made to force entry.  The occupant was finally awakened, and the crew found a pan-o’meat burning on the stove.  The building was ventilated and the box was placed in service.

Once everyone had a chance to return home and get warmer, Engine 213 and the Air were dispatched on the deuces to Fairview Twp., York County for a house fire on Oak Hill Road.  Both units arrived on scene and the engine crew went to work assisting with overhaul and hose rolling on a small outbuilding (possibly a summer kitchen) that was a total loss.  The 2nd alarm was requested by Command 68 as the fire was impinging upon an adjacent barn.  As the sun rose and drove the temperatures to a spring-like 17 degrees, units were placed available.
