Hay Load Catches Fire

Just before 6am Companies 13 & 14 and Harrisburg Squad 8 and Tower 3 were dispatched to Interstate 83 South in the area of Rt. 581 for a dump truck fire. Squad 8 arrived to find a dump truck full of hay on fire and requested the driver of the dump truck to dump the hay along the side of the road. Engine 213 arrived and began applying a foam blanket to the fire, two tankers were requested to the scene to establish a water supply. Engine Company 10 was requested to set up a fill site for the responding tankers. PennDot arrived with a front end loader to assist in overhaul and eventually removal of the burned hay. Crews operated for just under two hours. Special thanks to New Kingstown engine 233 and Highspire engine 55 for the assistance with cleaning hose and getting the engine back in service.
